STV Electronic presents the Smart Manager EVO
Smart Manager now based on the Raspberry Pi 4
Schloß-Holte, September 16, 2025 – The proven Smart Manager from STV Electronic is now available as Smart Manager EVO 4 in a new version. Compared to the previous model, this is based on the Raspberry Pi 4 and offers a correspondingly higher performance.
The Smart Manager EVO is an industry-compatible DIN rail PC that has been specially developed for tasks in control technology and building automation. With its powerful Broadcom processor of the Raspberry Pi Compute Module CM4, it offers sufficient computing power with its four cores and a clock frequency of up to 1.5 GHz, even for complex tasks. The Compute Module is integrated in the familiar DIN rail housing, and the supply voltage is DC 24 V. The small computer has two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 3.0 ports and a switchable RS-485/RS-232 interface, which offer a variety of options for data communication. With a RAM of 4 GB – compared to 1 GB in the previous version – larger web applications can now also be kept in the memory.
Flexible programming
Thanks to the innovative STV mounting rail bus, expansion modules can be directly connected to the Smart Manager EVO, which ensures a compact design and minimal wiring effort. A customized Debian Linux is installed as the operating system. The programming of the device is flexible and supports CoDeSys, NodeRed, Node.js, C and C++, as well as the simple installation of FHEM, openHAB and Mosquitto. The Smart Manager EVO is available now and, with an availability of ten years, offers a future-proof solution for automation technology.
Passive cooling possible despite higher performance
Markus Hühn, Managing Director of STV Electronic, comments on the question of why the latest version Raspberyy Pi 5 is not used: “The Raspberry Pi 5 would have offered us practically no advantages but the decisive disadvantage that it has to be actively cooled.” Due to the passive cooling, the Smart Manager EVO can be easily installed in the control cabinet or housings.
